On a beautiful spring evening the Blue Jays hosted the Giants in the opening game of the 2010 Minor league season. The starting pitchers set the tone early for each team. Eric Patricio took the mound for the Blue Jays and mowed down 6 of the first 8 Giant batters he faced. The only hits were a single by Mike Schaff and a hard hit double by Kyle O’Connor. Nathan Cormier started for the Giants and was just as effective striking out 4, and getting stellar defense from Mike Schaff at 2b and Catherine Covert at short. Cormier was also helped out by Brendan Trombley on a heads up play at first. In the third inning the Jays went to Nick Gosselin, who continued to keep the Giants batters at bay. Ryan Murray got in on the pitching duel for the Giants and proceeded to strike out three consecutive batters for a 1-2-3 inning. The Jays went back to the pen and called on Joshua Bailey to throw in the fourth. The Giants threatened early in the inning loading the bases but Bailey settled down striking out the next three batters. With a scoreless game in the balance the Giants called on Brandan Yan to close out the game. Yan got into early trouble but then found his groove and proceeded to strike out six batters and kept the Jays off the board. Eric Wong finished the game for the Jays and he did not disappoint, getting out of bases loaded jam and ending the game in a scoreless tie. This was a great way to start off the season, both teams look forward to the rematch on Tuesday May 4th.

WOW!!! What a game. On Family Day, the Blue Jays and Giants gave their families all they could hope for. The Giants cam ready for a battle. Jumping out to a quick 4 - 0, the Giants let the Blue Jays know they were taking this game seriously. Behind the supurb pitching of Bandon Yan and Nathan Cormier, the Giants were in control. Behind the hitting of Ryan Murray, Joey Buturla, Nathan Cormier and Brandon Yan, things looked bleak for the Jays. Not to be outdone, Nicholas Gosselin turned in two strong innings for the Jays. Eric Patrico came in and held the Giants scoreless for two inning to keep the score close at 4-3. Catherine Covert put a scare into the Jays with a two out, 2 run home run to deep right to increase the lead to 6 -3. The Jays didn't quit. With the game on the line, the Jays scored 4 runs in the final frame to pull out the victory. The offensive star of the game for the Jays was the newly aquired Alex Esquivel who went 3 -4 in his first game since being called up from the rookie league. Josh Bailey got the victory on the mound for the Jays with a solid inning in relief.

Andres Hulfachor, Parker Obenhofer, Rajit Khanna , Tim Eaton and Joshua Tramack all stole bases to aid the run making. The Cardinals pitchers and fielders contributed too, keeping the pressure on. Parker Obenhofer made a double play to close the fourth inning while giving away no hits and no runs during the game. Andres Hulfachor allowed no hits and Tim Eaton made a ground out to finish off the first inning. The Giants made their mark with pitching and good eyes for the ball. Brandon Yan pitched two innings allowing no hits and no runs and also making a ground out. There were two steals, one each by Michael Schaaf and Ryan Murray. Michael Schaaf drew three walks and Ryan Murray and David Buturla drew two each. In the end the Cardinals won out but good baseball was played by all.

Brandon Yan came out throwing strikes and the Cardinals came ready to hit them. Tim Eaton Led off with a hard single followed up by a Double off the bat of Andres Hulfachor. Parker Obenhofer worked a walk in a tough at bat well pitched by the extremely accurate Mr. Yan Who threw 2 innings, 59 pitches with 49 for strikes (which has to be some kind of record). This loaded the bases for Nolan Foss who came up to bat. With the count 2-2 Nolan was able to lace a grounder to the right side of the field that made it to the outfield. This scored 2. The Cardinals weren't done there... Joshua Tramack came up to bat and Brandon got ahead with two strikes. On the 3rd pitch Josh hammered a shot to deep right field that scored Parker and Nolan. Brandon then settled in and struck out the next 2 batters. Although Josh was able to steal third, Mr. Yan was able to hold offensive show to only 4 runs. Parker Obenhofer came in throwing. He walked the 1st 2 batters on full counts then settled in for a strikeout on the 3rd batter. Kyle O'Connor worked another walk in a full count battle to load the bases. Parker responded to that with a strikeout on 4 pitches. Brendan Trombley came to the plate and on a 1-1 count pounded a single that scored 2. Parker then ended the inning with his 3rd strikeout. In the top of the 2nd Brandon came right back out and struck out the 1st batter. The Cardinals were able to bear down and put up 4 runs on another single by Tim Eaton, Andres Hulfachor's 2nd double of the game, then a single by both Parker Obenhofer and Michael Jolicoeur. After a quick put out from Yan to 1st Josh Tramack came out an hit another bomb for a double. Parker came back out with a padded lead and held it by striking out 3 batters. Despite 2 single by Drew Dunham and Michael Schaff. Ryan Murray came out in the top of the 3rd and was able to hold the Cardinals scoreless to give his team an opportunity to come back. Nolan Foss had other ideas... He came out and promtly slammed the door shut striking out the 1st 3 batters. The Cardinals were able to score 2 more in the top of the 4th on runs driven in by Tim Eaton and Josh Tramack. Nolan came out to face Ryan Murray who wasted no time in hitting a bomb to center field! With a little crafty base running and some mental mistakes from the Cardinals Mr. Murray turned his double into a Homerun! Nolan did not like this one bit, so he put on his game face and struck out the next 3 batters. In the top of the 5th Catherine Covert came out throwing strikes. Parker Obenhofer and Nolan Foss were able to connect for singles and Charlie Collins and Brian Boyle were able to work 2 walks on full counts to score a run. Catherine wasn't having any more of that and was able to take care of the rest of the inning herself with 3 strikeouts. Nolan Foss came back to seal the deal striking out the 1st batter then put on a ground out clinic, handling one from Jagadish Somasundaram on a 4-3 put out to Tim Eaton at 1st. Tim took the last one himself, off the bat of Kyle O'Connor to end the game. This was truly an exciting game and with great pitching on both sides was truly won off the lethal bats of the Cardinals!

On May 27th 2010, the Giants and Orioles met for the third time this season. Both teams came to the field hungry for a win. The Giants had Nathan Cormier on the hill for the 1st three innings. Cormier struck out 8 batters and received help through great defense in the field led by Drew Dunham’s stellar back hand play at second to record the out at first. With the Giants leading 5-0 in the top of the second, the Orioles looked to Eren LaBonte to keep them in the game. LaBonte did not disappoint and proceeded to strike out the side in both the 2nd and 3rd innings. Offensively, Jagadish Somasundaram, was the standout for the Giants recording his first hit of the season. However a heads up play by Oriole 1st baseman Nate Bergeson kept Jagadish from stretching his hit to a double tagging him as he rounded first for the out. Brandon Yan was called on to pitch and close out the game for the Giants. After getting the first batter out, the Orioles mounted a rally as, Nathan Zalzal and Mason Linscott drilled hard hits to the field. The Orioles looked to cash in on their base runners and scored one run. With runners on and the game on the line the Orioles continued to test the arm of catcher Joe Buturla attempting to advance the runners into scoring position but Joe had a different ideas, and threw a laser down to 3rd baseman Kyle O'Connor gunning out the advancing runner for the final out of the game. With a 10 – 1 final the Giants put a “W” on the board for the first time this season. Both teams played great and will meet again on June 6th for the series finale.

The Giants entered the bottom of the last inning down one run and in need of a rally. With the bases loaded and two outs the Giants Jagadish Somasundaram drew a walk to bring in the tying score. Tied at six, Joe Buturla stepped in and after getting two quick strikes on him, turned on the next pitch, lining it to center field. Mike Schaff bolted home to score the winning run. The Giants hosted the Orioles in critical matchup with the winners moving on in the playoffs. While the O’s played well today both defensively and offensively, it wasn’t enough to hold off the mighty Giants! The Giants starter Nathan Cormier was solid in his two innings of work striking out 5 and allowing no runs. Pitching for the Orioles were starter Nate Zalzal, Mason Linscott, Brendan Choate & Eren LaBonte. All the O's pitchers put on good performances recording 12 K’s throughout the game. The Giants offense showed patience at the plate and added runs on walks coupled with hits by Brandon Yan and Brendan Trombey (3-3) jumping out to a 4 – 0 lead. The Orioles however would soon mount their comeback with hits by Mason Linscott (2B), Eren LaBonte (1B), Nate Bergerson (1B) and, Ryan Joransen (1B) and a timely hit by Nathan Zalzal who delivered a bases clearing triple to put the Orioles on top 5-4. The Giants, then went to work tying the game in the third and breaking it open in the fourth, scoring five. The Giants then brought in closer Brandon Yan who faced a number of tough Orioles hitters who put in good at bats and were not going down without a fight. In the end Yan would record six K's in his effort to preserve the Giants win. This was a long but hard fought battle and each team win or lose could “feel good” about their efforts.
2010-06-15  cardinals:8 giants:4-------PLAYOFF GAME----------
The game began on a winning note when Captain Josh Tramack won the coin toss on lucky flip. The Giant's Nathan Cormier pitched a solid first 4 innings striking out 9 Cardinals batters. The Cardinals were able to Blank the Giants through the 1st 5 innings on the pitching of Nolan Foss and Andres Hulfachor. Nolan went 2 innings striking out 6 and Andres went 3 innings striking out 8. Parker Obenhofer came in to pitch the 6th striking out 2. The few base runners that were allowed were afraid to try and steal with the threat of Catcher, Timmy Eaton's laser beam arm. He reached back and gunned down a baserunner trying to take 2nd. Michael Jolicoeur received the game ball for a moonshot double that he hit in the 5th inning that scored the 2 base runners and helped cement the lead for the Cardinals. Joe Buturla was a force at catcher gunning down an advancing runner at 3rd Andres Hulfachor led the hit parade going 3-3. Riley Lawless, Tim Eaton, and Nolan Foss all went 2-3, continuing their hot-hitting streaks! Branden Yan came in relief striking out 2 batters to prevent the Cardinals from adding any more runs Offensively for the Branden Yan 2 hits, Joey 2 hits, Nathan Cormier 1 hit, Ryan Murray 1, Kyle O'Connor 1 hit as the Giants rallied in the bottom of the sixth scoring four runs but that wasn't enough to pull out the victory. The Cardinals officially nicknamed themselves "The Big Red Machine" at the end of the game, so look out Blue Jays... The BRM is coming to play you Wednesday, and we're not ready to hang up our spikes just yet!
