The Astros struck first with consecutive singles by Chase Hart, Owen Mooso, and Andrew Penkala. A’s pitcher Pranav Prabhala then settled down holding the Astros to just one run over the first 2 innings even though 3 Astros, Stefan Martin, Vincent Priore, and Erika Wentz all worked their way on base. The A’s then struck in the top of the third inning with solid hits by Nolan Foss, Srimanth Kumar, Roe Hendrick, Michael Oliver, Kevin Morris, and Pranav putting 5 up on the board and taking the lead 5-1. The Astros came right back in the bottom of the third with 4 runs of their own sparked by hits from Derek Chiavelli and Robby Pavlas sandwiched around great base running by Chase and Andrew. The A’s came right back in the bottom of the fourth. After Nolan worked his way on base Joshua Tramack moved him into scoring position and Andres Hulfachor lashed a screaming double scoring them both. With hits from hits then from Pranav, Sri, Roe, and Michael the A’s batted around for the second inning in a row ending with Aaron Silva driving in the final run of the inning making the score A’s 11, Astros 5. In the bottom of the 4th the daunting task of holding the Astros and protecting the slim lead for the A’s went to Ace pitcher Andrew Simard. The Astros were not intimidated and with some great base running from Alex Patno and Erika put 2 up on the board cutting the A’s lead to 4. The Astros then took the field led by such defensive standouts as Camden Chesbrough and Nathan Lowell with one mission, shut down the A’s offensive machine. Nolan led off with a single then Vinny settled down on the mound and his defense tightened up and the Astros got out of the inning stranding Nolan at third. Time became the enemy as it was clear when they came up for the bottom of the 5th that this would be their last chance to walk off with the win. Andrew took the mound to finish the job but everyone knew it would not be easy. After getting one out Owen hit a solid single followed by Andrew Penkala 3rd hit of the day a double but in a clutch defensive play the Astro’s lead runner was tagged out trying to score. The A’s would like to thank the The Minor league Cardinals for sending up 3 of their stars Andres Hulfachor, Joshua Tramack, and Nolan Foss.
